For years, the path for a yoga or fitness instructor looked the same: rent a studio, build a local client base, and hope enough people show up to cover rent. That model still works — but it caps your income to the number of hours in a day and the number of mats in a room. The instructors growing fastest right now have added a second income stream: selling their classes online, both live and recorded, to students anywhere in the world. Here's how to actually set that up, without turning yourself into a tech person.
Why "Live + Recorded" Beats Picking Just One
Most instructors default to one format and stop there. That's leaving money on the table.

Live classes build community, accountability, and real-time correction — the things that make people renew.

Recorded classes work for the student who can't make a 7 AM slot, lives in a different time zone, or wants to repeat a session on their own schedule.

Selling both means you're not trading time for money one class at a time. A single well-produced session can be taught live once and then sold on-demand for months or years afterward.
Step 1: Decide What You're Actually Selling
Before touching any platform, get specific about the offer. Vague answers here lead to weak marketing later.

Single drop-in classes — good for building an audience, low commitment for new students

Monthly membership — unlimited access to live classes + a growing library, priced for recurring revenue

Structured programs — e.g., a 21-day flexibility program, a 6-week strength cycle, a prenatal yoga course

1:1 or small-group coaching — higher price, added alongside group content

Most successful instructors eventually run all four, but you should launch with one and expand once it's working.
Step 2: Set Up Where You'll Actually Teach and Sell
This is where instructors get stuck stitching together five different tools — a video call app, a payment link, a separate video host, an email tool, and a spreadsheet to track who paid. It works until it doesn't.An all-in-one platform like Gyaankool removes that friction because it's built to handle all of this in one dashboard:

Live sessions you can host and sell access to directly, with automated reminders so attendance doesn't drop

On-demand libraries where recorded classes are organized by level, style, or program — sold individually or bundled into a membership

Payments with zero transaction fees, so a ₹500 drop-in class or a ₹2,000/month membership keeps more of what your students pay

Built-in funnels and email automation to turn a free trial class into a paying member without manual follow-up

Community features so students can post progress, ask questions, and stay engaged between sessions — the single biggest driver of retention for fitness and yoga memberships

Step 3: Price It Like a Business, Not a Favor
A common mistake is pricing online classes the same as a single in-studio drop-in, forgetting that online reach removes your local ceiling entirely.Instead:

Price single classes to cover your time and slight overhead — this is your top-of-funnel offer

Price memberships to reward commitment: a monthly plan should feel meaningfully cheaper per class than buying drop-ins individually

Price programs (challenges, multi-week series) at a premium — they solve a specific problem (weight loss, flexibility, postpartum recovery) rather than just providing content

Step 4: Build the Funnel That Fills Your Live Classes
A live class with three attendees isn't a business yet. To fix that:

Offer a free class or short trial as the entry point — this is your lead magnet

Automatically follow up with an email sequence that shares testimonials, addresses hesitations ("I'm not flexible enough," "I don't have equipment"), and invites them to your paid membership or program

Use a community space to keep free-trial students engaged instead of letting them disappear after one session

Re-market recorded replays to people who registered for a live session but couldn't attend — this alone recovers a large chunk of "lost" leads

Step 5: Don't Ignore the Recorded Library — It's Your Passive Income
Every live class you teach is content. Recording sessions (with student consent, blurred faces if needed) builds a library that:

Sells to students who prefer flexible timing

Becomes evergreen income long after the live session ends

Can be repackaged into structured programs later

Reduces your future workload as the library grows

Over 12 months, an instructor who consistently records ends up with dozens of hours of sellable content — created as a byproduct of classes they were already teaching.
The Bottom Line
You don't need a film crew or a tech team to sell classes online. You need one place to host live sessions, store recordings, take payments without losing a cut to fees, and keep in touch with students automatically. That's exactly the gap Gyaankool is built to fill for instructors who'd rather spend their energy teaching than managing five different apps.If you're already teaching in person, your next class is already half-built — it just needs a place to live online.
